Hemmed in by scams and an aggressive opposition, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are going for an image makeover for the party and the government. A blueprint to revamp the party organisation in tandem with a Cabinet reshuffle is said to be in its final stages.The operation is expected to bear fruit by the end of January. Union Health Minister Ghul­am Nabi Azad, who’s also the AICC in-charge of several states including Tamil Nadu, could be back in the party. The Prime Minister, sources said, initially pitc­hed for him to take over as Parliamentary Affairs Ministry — given the troubles the government faced in the winter session. But he’s likely to be given the role of overseeing the southern states for the Congress.Azad may get charge of Andhra Pradesh. However, sources said he is trying to wriggle out of difficult party assignments.  I&B Minister Ambika Soni, however, is said have no complains about returning to party work. But Minister for Social Justice Mukul Wasnik, after the fiasco in Bihar, is likely to be relieved of his party duties.HRD Minister Kapil Sibal is saddled not only with additional charge of Telecom after A Raja’s dramatic resignation in the wake of the 2G spectrum scam but he is also looking after Science & Technology, vacated by Prithviraj Chavan.  Minister of State Salman Khurshid is expected to be elevated to Cabinet rank and given a meatier portfolio than his Minority Affairs and Company Affairs. Similarly, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma could get External Affairs from SM Krishna. At least, that is what many in the Congress believe.It also needs to be seen whether Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh continues in the Ministry or comes to the party. According to Congress sources, the Home, Defence and Finance Ministers too might switch jobs.
