மதுரை: வரும் சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தலில் யாருடன் கூட்டணி என்பது குறித்து இன்னும் முடிவு செய்யவில்லை என்று தேமுதிக தலைவர் விஜயகாந்த் கூறியுள்ளார்.

மதுரை திருமங்கலம் அருகே, காங்கேய நத்தத்தில் விஜயகாந்தின் குல தெய்வமான வீர சின்னம்மாள் கோவில் உள்ளது. அரசியலில் முக்கிய முடிவுகளை அவர் எடுக்கும் முன் இங்கு அவர் சாமி தரிசனம் செய்வது வழக்கம். நேற்று காலை விஜயகாந்த் தனது மனைவி பிரமேலதா, மகன்களுடன் கோவிலுக்கு வந்தார்.

அம்மனுக்கு சிறப்பு அலங்காரம் செய்யப்பட்டு தீபாராதனைகள் நடந்தன. தரிசனத்தை முடித்துவிட்டு மதுரை புறப்பட்ட அவரிடம் நிருபர்கள், தேமுதிக யாருடன் கூட்டணி அமைக்கும் என்று குறித்து கேட்டதற்கு, ஆண்டுக்கு ஒருமுறை குல தெய்வம் கோவிலுக்கு வருவது வழக்கம். அதற்காக தான் வந்தேன். தேர்தல் கூட்டணி குறித்து இன்னும் முடிவு செய்யப்படவில்லை. முடிவு செய்தால் தெரியப்படுத்துவேன் என்றார்.

பின்னர் திருப்பரங்குன்றம் சென்ற அவர் மாலையில் விமானம் மூலம் சென்னை திரும்பினார்.

மதுரையில் இருந்தபோது விஜயகாந்தை திமுக தென் மண்டல பொறுப்பாளரும் மத்திய அமைச்சருமான மு.க.அழகிரியின் சார்பில் திமுக மாவட்டச் செயலாளர் சந்தித்துப் பேசியதாகவும், விஜய்காந்தின் இந்த மதுரை பயணத்துக்கு முன்பே அவரது சகோதரியும் கணவரும் அழகிரியை சந்தித்துப் பேசியதாகவும் கூறப்படுவது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

தேமுதிக வந்தால் தான் கொஞ்சமாவது வெற்றிக்கு வாய்ப்பு என்ற நிலையில் அதிமுக உள்ள நிலையில் விஜய்காந்தை அழகிரி தரப்பில் சந்தித்து என்ன பேசினர் என்று தெரியவில்லை. இதனால் தேமுதிக அதிமுகவுடன் கூட்டணி வைக்குமா அல்லது தனித்துப் போட்டியிடுமா என்ற கேள்விக் குழப்பம் தொடர்கிறது.

CM Karunanidhi Finalise PMK :Allotting 31 assembly also gets a Rajya Sabha seat.

The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu has signed an electoral pact with the S Ramadoss-led PMK on Friday, allotting 31 assembly seats in the ensuing elections to the PMK. The PMK also gets a Rajya Sabha seat. 

The PMK leader said he had gone to invite the DMK leader for his grandson's wedding. "It was a happy meeting with a happy end. We have been given 31 assembly seats and a Rajya Sabha seats," he told reporters outside Karunanidhi's Gopalapuram residence in Chennai.

PMK was part of the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance in the 2006 assembly elections. PMK had then contested the same number of 31 seats and won 18 of them. The two parties have had a difficult relationship after the PMK parted ways with the DMK in July, after being a vociferous opposition within the alliance. PMK contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections as an ally of the AIADMK, but drew a blank.

As the 2011 Assembly elections were nearing, Ramadoss send confusing signals to the DMK. Last month, when Karunanidhi said PMK was with him, Ramadoss criticised the DMK leader for unilaterally making the announcement. Karunanidhi hit back, saying his doors were closed on the PMK, and that anyway the Congress leadership did not want Ramadoss in the alliance. Ramadoss moved quickly in Delhi for a rapprochement. The final patch-up came after Ramadoss' son and former health minister in UPA-I Anbumani Ramadoss met Sonia Gandhi on Thursday. 

After its formation in 1989, PMK contested four elections on its own, winning just one seat in the 1991 assembly and four in 1996. Since then, the party had alternated between the two Dravidian parties as allies. In the 1998 Lok Sabha polls, it tied up with AIADMK and won four seats. In the general elections the following year, PMK partnered with DMK and won five seats.

In the 2001 assembly polls, Ramadoss was back with Jayalalithaa and bagged 18 seats. Three years later, PMK went back to the DMK fold to fight the 2004 Lok Sabha elections and won six seats. The party got national exposure with Anbumani becoming the Union health minister. The alliance continued for the 2006 assembly elections in which the party won 18 seats. In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, PMK jumped fence to ally with AIADMK, but could not win a seat. PMK, which enjoys the support of the OBC Vanniyars, enjoys about 10% of the vote share in the northern states of Tamil Nadu. The party is considered a decisive factor in about 40 assembly constituencies and eight Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

According to a report, Ajith had called up Vijay recently and congratulated the Numero Uno (in waiting) of Tamil Cinema Vijay for his performance in 'Villu'. The report said that Ajith had been to a drive-in theater in Chennai's East Coast Road and watched the Prabhu Deva directed 'Villu'. The star of 'Billa' was impressed with Villu's action sequences and offered his congratulations. He even reportedly asked Vijay to make sure certain safety measures were adhered to while performing stunts.

Both Vijay and Ajith have been in competition for a long time now and are approaching their respective fifty films. However, both stars have been struggling to deliver consistent hits mainly due to their preference of one-man-army roles with next to nothing script and screenplay.

The slow but sure emergence of new directors in Tamil Cinema who put the art of story telling ahead of an individual's screen image might hamper both their styles of filmmaking in the future.

Ajith's 50th film 'Asal' and Vijay's 49th film 'Vettaikaaran' are expected to clash at the box office later this year. Something to look forward to.

Balwa, arrested in Mumbai late Tuesday by the Central Bureau of Investigation

Balwa, arrested in Mumbai late Tuesday by the Central Bureau of Investigation, was presented before a court on Wednesday morning and was then taken to the Mumbai airport for a flight to New Delhi. 

The CBI nabbed Balwa following an arrest warrant issued by a New Delhi court.

In its remand application, CBI said Balwa's company Swan Telecom, which allegedly got favours in the spectrum allocation, had caused the national exchequer a loss of over Rs.22,000 crore.

It further said that Balwa allegedly conspired with private companies to sell 2G spectrum licences acquired at a cheap rate by Swan Telecom -- part of DB Realty -- to a company in the Gulf at a huge profit.

Balwa became the fourth person -- and the first who is not a government official -- to be arrested in connection with the scam.

Former communications minister A. Raja and two of his aides are under arrest. The scam relates to irregularities in the allocation of second generation spectrum to telecom companies when Raja was the minister.

Swan Telecom is one of the companies that allegedly benefited from the spectrum allocation. It was part of Mumbai-based DB Realty, which has since then become Etisalat DB.

Three more one-day hundreds in the World Cup climaxing in his native Mumbai on April 2 would make him the only batsman to total 100 centuries over both forms of the game, a landmark which like Bradman’s test average of 99.94 would probably last forever.
“I still want to achieve something and everyone knows that,” Tendulkar, 37, said last month at a ceremony to celebrate India’s number one spot in the world test rankings.
SPIN RULES
Fourteen teams have been divided into two groups for the tournament, co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, with the top four from each division advancing to the quarter-finals. The first round follows a week of warmup matches, further extending an already overlong competition, and on paper looks soporifically predictable.
In Group A, defending champions Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka would have to seriously under-perform to miss qualifying ahead of Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya.
Group B holds marginally more interest. Bangladesh barely hold their own in test cricket but they can be a force in the one-day game, especially on their own pitches as a 4-0 drubbing of New Zealand late last year testified.
With a host of slow, naggingly accurate bowlers on sluggish pitches, Bangladesh could well qualify at the expense of West Indies in a group including India, England, South Africa, Ireland and the Netherlands.
The explosion in the one-day game in India, which made the country the richest and most powerful nation in world cricket, followed their upset win over West Indies in the 1983 final under the inspired captaincy of all-rounder Kapil Dev.
At subsequent World Cups they have not played to their potential, reaching only one other final when they were demolished by an outstanding Australian side in 2003.
To exploit home advantage, India have packed their side with full- and part-time spinners in the knowledge that when the knockout stages eventually get away in late March temperatures will be soaring and the pitches will deteriorate faster.
MURALITHARAN DEPARTS
The other leading contenders have reached the same conclusion with even South Africa, who have historically viewed spin bowling with deep suspicion, naming three slow bowlers.
South Africa possess a modern-day master in all-rounder Jacques Kallis, whose averages stand comparison with those of Garfield Sobers. They will again field a confident, aggressive side but have consistently failed to convert potential into performance at the World Cup.
Australia, emphatic champions in the last three tournaments, were trounced by England in the Ashes but won the subsequent one-day series with Shane Watson batting with muscular authority at the top of the order and a revitalised Brett Lee bowling at express pace.
For their part, England have enjoyed a wonderful 12 months, starting with their first major one-day title in the Caribbean last year when they won the Twenty20 World Cup. The 50-overs World Cup is the next target en route to their goal of becoming world number one in both test and one-day cricket.
Pakistan remain possibly the most talented but certainly the most unpredictable team in world cricket and if anybody is to deny India it may be another of the sub-continental sides.
Muttiah Muralitharan, the highest wicket-taker in both test and one-day cricket, will play domestic cricket only after the tournament.

Before then he will strain every sinew in his elastic right arm to help Sri Lanka, who demonstrated strength in depth in their one-day series triumph over Australia before the Ashes, to emulate their 1996 World Cup victory.
“This World Cup will be my last outing,” Muralitharan, 38, said. “My time is up. This is my fourth World Cup.”
“We won in 1996 and came close in 2007 by reaching the final. This would be a memorable one for me and for Sri Lankan fans.”
